What do you do when you have an OJS? What do you tell other drivers to do to protect themselves?

I follow the methods to the letter. The biggest thing I don't do and what I tell others not to do, is DO NOT take short cuts to show the supervisor that you are a great, dedicated, willing to do anything extra to get the job done kinda driver. Example don't back a driveway you may by yourself, don't speed, take your lunch between the 4th and 6th hour, even if you will miss businesses or pickups. Let you sup call in and make arrangements to get the work done. UPS has never asked you to do anything illegal or unsafe so don't do it when they are with you.

Follow all methods to the letter. During pre-trip, be sure and check your wipers and fire extinguisher. Give them no reason to find negative things. When they start asking you safety questions while driving, pull over and explain they are distracting you from driving and you will be happy to answer all questions at the appropriate time.

Just follow the methods that are in the book. When the supervisor gets mad for going to slow tell them that the way it is in are training. And tell them remember SAFETY FIRST!!! right?

well there is optimum carry where manangement wants you carry as many packages in your car as possible. i only carry what i feel is safe & doesn't block my view. i think in article 37 ups is supposted consider one's age & physical ability. well 10 chavez 396 my b.a. & maybe yours too. tells the members to work slow & that they get paid by the hour. now wonder my manager wanted him removed from the building. that's stupid on the b.a.'s part to sabotage the operation. remeber the 5 steps of slips & falls and 8 keys of lowering & lifting.

years ago, when the company had "TLA's" some of you might remember those. My onroad supervisor told me that and I quote, "There is no such thing as a perfect driver". To this day I let all the new hires as well as ytoungsters in the bldg know that the company does recognize the fact that there are no "perfect" employees. If any employees goes out of the way to show the company that they might be perfect, stop them in their tracks.

Change, I think it might be better to suggest that members work "safe," and drop the slow down and getting paid by the hour reference. Just my opinion.

of course mollies that's called sabotaging the operation & a worker can get terminated & if a shop steward or union rep is saying that the the employer can file a charge with the labor board against the union. i agree with you work safe. i was referring to my b.a.(business agent) has been known to notify members to slow down & stated they get paid by the hour. back in the 90's when the former secretary treasurer had told the workers to prolong their days & the rubbish companies sued the local for back pay in overtime for the workers.

Please don't ever use the word slow at UPS, it will get you discharged for a work stoppage...i've seen it happen. Replace the word slow with safe like mollies said.
