Telematics. We have had a few posting regarding this topic. So lets concentrate on it specifically. As many of us know UPS has tested their telematics system in Roswell and Athens, Ga. Now they are rolling out the technology to drivers in Baltimore, Md.; Bowling Green, Ky.; Campbellsville, Ky.; Laguna, Calif.; Landover, Md.; Providence, R.I.; Somerset, Ky.; Sweetwater, Texas; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Waldorf, Md.; and Wichita, Kan. according to their web site at ( www.pressroom.ups.com/mediakits/factsheet/0,2305,1510,00.html ). Do we have drivers in Roswell or Athens who can tell us more about this technology? In the new areas where UPS is putting telematics technologies in, what can you tell us about the implementation of this technology. To read up on UPS' use of telematics go to the following link for an overview ( www.cio.com/article/355913/UPS_s_New_Telematics_System_Cuts_Fuel_Costs_and_Makes_Drivers_More_Efficient_?page=1 )

This system is unbelieveable. It tracks everything the driver does. Seatbelt, bulkhead door, sheeting or completing stops/ p/u's while moving or idleing, lunch, NDA and the way the rte is ran. They can also go to googles mapquest and track the truck in a realtime format. If you don't know you 340 METHODS you better learn them there's no shortcuts with system. If your DIAD is pulled from its slot it reports it, if you are setting still longer than 5 min. it reports it, if you record your lunch and keep delivering it reports location and duration.

ALL stewards should get the word out that management will be relentless with this technology. There are more people than you think doing things that they should not be doing, and if they continue they won't be wearing browns for much longer, especially now with the economy being in the toilet. Try and get your people to break their bad habits, it will be tough... you have to keep on them. We had a few guys get whacked recently for not following methods and we don't even have telematics yet!

I love telematix. I've been driving for 31 years and follow methods to the letter. I consider myself a Method-ist. Frustrates the heck out of them when someone does the job the way it's supposed to be done.
