In local 391, a shop steward from feeders made a motion to change union dues from being monthly to weekly. His reasoning for changing the monthly fees to weekly fees was because he felt the dues were too much of a burden at one time for himself. If this was coming from a part time employee in college this might make some sense but a feeder driver! This motion was passed by all five members that attended the union meeting. Many of us see the financial gain by the union in the fact that instead of 12 months of dues there will be 52 weeks of dues. Even though at 52 weeks the dues are averaged there are additional weeks in some months which in return would increase revenue but towards what? I am curious to see if this is a nation wide event or simply a regional event and what actions are needed in order to reverse the motion.
