I assume that part time upsers are being laid off all over the country, just like here in Vermont, two for every driver bumped inside. I understand that we need the full time jobs and that they're protected, so I'm not complaining. But are there any pitfalls or inside information that I should know? I've never seen a part time layoff before in my 20 years on preload. This could be a long downturn....
It seems like we always find out too late something that could have helped us. Maybe we could prevent some of that.
thanks

hi upsyours the key is that part timers must be involved local elections, contract negociations, & ibt elections. very few percentage of part timers par take in anything. some of the locals play voting constituent politics. meaning some of the local officers only caters to those that vote. it's not the 20 years veteran. it 18, 19 year old newhire. i'm sure you know over 10 years ago if a driver got laid off, the driver couldn't come back to part time. also you have to consider the combo 22.3 workers. unfortunately part timers aren't getting informed enough. with volume dropping down and some operations in other building shutting down. feeder routes being reduced sending feeder drivers back to package & send package car drivers back in the building or preload operation. with less volume and more staffing, somebody has to go. now this is time to watch your tardiness, and attendance meaning the general membership, not you upsyours. in my opinion 2009 will be a very long year. as i read the news usps wants to shut one of their 6 day work week. the decisions that bush & chaney has trinkled down to the fortune 500 companies & now to us. i don't know what the gas prices are in vermont? but remember when those prices where outrageous, ups was trying to consolodate routes then, now with new gps system it's able to monitor drivers routes, sometimes one must seek information know the current events. because ups & the union remain silent. before i sign off alot of 100th weights pick ups in which a mulitiple of package going to one place is being picked up by ups freight. these package are being put on pallets and shrink wrap and a destination sticker slaped on them. that's less volume for the building, less feeder drivers on the road because anything on pallets that has to be removed on a fork lift is considered freight

It's strange though, huge classes for midnight and small classes for twilight. Yet we're sending like crazy everyday.

preloders are starting to get laid off and lot of unloaders are getting the ax. lot of the drivers laid off are going to unload, they don't want the load side or preload.

Just remember! These drivers that working preload and reload will have their pay readjusted. Yes, they can do that and they are doing that! The reduction in pay will correspond with the highest paid person on that shift. Fortunately the drivers in my building have a red circle clerk working on the preload. UPS tried to tell me that red circle wages didn't count but I called them out on that and saved the drivers a bunch of heart ache. ;D

First off, I would like to say I'm glad to have found this site!!! Now, I have a question about the part time layoffs. Does anybody know if clerks or customer counter clerks are protected under any circumstance of being bumped by full time drivers?
