What’s the biggest obstacle to making UPS pay for violations?

The shop steward needs to show the business agent page 10 of the National Master about supervisors working: "The Employer agrees that the function of supervisors is the supervision of Employees and not the performance of the work of the employees they supervise." And it sounds like UPS has that business agent in their pocket! But yes, it seems the Union business agents are the biggest obstacle. They take their time with grievances. Maybe they don't like stepping on peoples toes?

As more and more dues paying members get laid off due to the economy/supervisors working, ask your BA if he, or she is concerned whether the lack of dues income will affect them. Vote them out!

Vote them out! mollies there was just an election in our local & the incumbents won again. if organized in 2011 perhaps, this current administration will be voted out, with a lot of laid off package car drivers in effect and the lack of dues sure doesn't affects them where they can buy $10.00 combo meals for their supporters as an expense write off & while these supporters are lifetime part timers with no opportunity to ever go full time. don't they realize that a $7.00 steak sandwich doesn't pay for their gas? i see some b.a.'s have to pay for loyalty along with dodger tickets.

If we organize now and not wait till 2011 we will won the local 396 membership. We need to reach out to the people that do vote the 20 year driver or the santation worker and try to get the part timers involved and show them what the officers of 396 are doing. It is possible to win I seen it happen.

you are right 10 chavez. we can't wait until september of 2011 to organize. i know that this current 396 administration will not sit around thinking that nobody will run against them. right now some of laid off drivers are saying that this administration sold them out & left them under the bus.

It actually is pretty sad that with driver layoffs in our district, there are still supervisors working every night and shuttling out work everyday.
