I know of no OSHA standard for UPS driver's shoes. The type and design of shoes are governed by the general guidelines in the "Uniforms" section of your supplement. In most supplements the language agreed to gives UPS the right to make "reasonable" rules concerning uniforms including shoes. We have all heard UPS' rules - leather shoe either brown or black. Non slip sole. If you wear shorts the shoe must not be a high top boot. The shoes must be kept polished and in good repair. Etc, etc.

Like everything else, UPS has their own "standards". If you ask you supervisor, s/he should be able to provide you these standards in writing - everything has a written procedure, right. The implementation of these standards is another story altogether. Not only does it vary by center, it varies by employee. So get a copy of what you are supposed to adhere to, and when some other supervisor tells you different, you, at least, have something to refer to. The methods are posted within this forum, I do not know if they address the appearance standards, or not.

Actually most standards set for safety including shoes generally are a corporate standard. As one individual stated black or brown polished sturdy upper leather shoe that is slip resistance no high top boots with shorts. I use to be the non management health and safety co chair and was trained by the corporate hacks.
